Blues Guitar Vibrato the simple logical ways work
The blues players that have that extra sound that makes your ears perk up and take notice, what do you think it is?
Is it they know better blues scales than you? Most of the time you will find they have developed a confident Vibrato.
Learn it so your playing will stand out from others.
Vibrato is beyond any doubt one of B.B. Kings beautiful signature musical expressions. You will find Your Own individual way to.
Acoustic guitar, Electric Guitar, nylon string guitar. You can learn and perfect the task of vibrato on any guitar. How to do Vibrato?
Lets get to work. Step 1. The first lesson is to realize you have a target note. This is an expression I have made up to convey that simply when you place Your Finger on a fret, on a sting with a natural touch, pushing down on the fret, you are producing a target note.
Play the target note. I want you to remember, don’t let go of that sound of thtarget note in Your Mind. Simply now bend the string up slightly. Then come back to the target note. Now bend that string down slightly, and return back to the target note. I have just described the steps in producing a vibrato.
Advanced players reading will want to stop reading here. I encourage you to read on! I have some valuable things to share on the advanced level, even if you think your already good at vibrato. Please read on.
I want to stress, the mistake that most guitar players in the beginning make is they don’t return exactly back to the target
note after the bend.
Now step 2. Get your hands on a metronome. I like my portable one that only cost me around $30.00, and it runs on a 9 volt battery.
You can find metronomes on the Internet if you wish. Ok, this is the simple secret to mastering the vibrato to a higher level.
Set the metronome for 40 beats per minute, its the slowest most of them will go. Start by playing the target note. Then on the click of the metronome you slightly bend up. Slowly return down and on the next click slowly bend the note slightly down. Ok thats it.
I know step two is similar to step one, but we have a tempo this time that we strictly have to play with.
Now lets go to a more reasonable tempo of 50. You will probably find this easier and more musical. The dedication you have to put into this is long and hard. I am not going to lie. It will slowly get easier. The rewards are great.
Now step 3. This practise routine can become very boring and cumbersome to some. This is the time to meditate. The more you Play Guitar you find it you will develop meditation skills. Meditation with the guitar is powerful stress-relieving. It helps you learn faster when you relax and breath with the beat. You know how you can get a thought and just stare at something and someone says something to you and you don’t hear them? The meditation on the tempo, and breathing with the tempo is how you will enjoy the training when you practice.
It will 100% improve concentration and re-energizes you. Seriously its not mysterious or unusual.
The more you vibrato a note, you discover that the wrist, arm, and hand all come into play to deliver your vibrato. Every day practise for 5 minutes or more at the slow tempo. Then the next day move the tempo up a notch. Keep a log of your tempo progress. It is not good after your practise the drill to start playing it fast. This will ruin your progress. You will loose your advancements of the relaxed vibrato at the slow tempo.
Commonly you will play the target note with the 3rd finger and then try it with the 1st finger. Watch B.B. King do it with his first finger. He slightly bends the string to the left when he does it. He influenced all the guitar players around the world with his signature vibrato.
It is really exciting for me to share this with you because I haven’t even got into the topic of stretching strings yet. Latter on I can show you how to deliver with confidence a cool steady vibrato holding a bent string up, and then let the note fall gracefully with your style. This is when the guitar really starts to talk to your audience. I mean talk to that primal level of people.
In closing let me leave you with this..ok.. Imagine. Slightly bend your target note to a slightly out of tune tone, that becomes your new target note, and then bend the string up and down as I described in step two. This is really awesome because you are playing notes in between the half step interval. Simply all that means is you are playing around with a note say between D and D#. That is in simple terms you are finding a target note in between two frets.

plug in 12 volt music sensor?
I have 2 blue neon tubes under the dash of my car, but they are always on. I was wondering if there was something i could buy that would plug in or wire in to make them beat to the music, since i dont wanna buy new ones. thanks
Depends on your electronic knowlege really…
you could mount a transistor on a circuit board, take a wire from your speaker output +tive to one pin of the transistor and then cut one wire going to your neon and attatch both ends of where you cut to the pins on the transistor. I’m not sure what transistor you’d want, nor can i remember which pins goto where, and you may need a buffer in there somewhere. also the transistor would have to handle the current/voltage.
it’s not an easy solution.
