Sunny Yellow

Sunny Yellow
Why are my Pink Dahlias Yellow?

A few weeks ago I bought some Dahlias and one of them had this vibrant Pink Flower. I have a container garden so I potted it in regular potting soil. Watered as usual. It’s doing fine except all of the new flowers that are coming up out of this same plant are a bright sunny yellow?! Is there some kind of additive or acidity need for dahlia I didn’t know about? How can I get my pink flowers back?

It’s a color mutation called “sporting”. You are not alone in this. It seems that pink dahlias turning yellow is pretty common.
Here is site about the color mutations.

Sunny Yellow Summer Wedding Centerpieces

One of the prettiest colors to use to decorate a summer wedding is yellow. It really captures the cheerful and upbeat spirit of the season, and the bright color is marvelous. Take a look at these ideas for sunny yellow summer wedding centerpieces.

Garden weddings are always a favorite of summer brides. Set the stage for your reception with a romantic yellow centerpiece with a just-picked appeal. Lush yellow garden roses combined with the heavenly scent of freesia would be perfect for a summer garden party. If you prefer a vintage eclectic effect, loosely gather the blossoms in a varied collection of white pitchers to place on each table. For a more elegant reception, you cannot beat footed garden urns as the centerpiece vessels. When the vessels are tall, dark green trailing ivory will be a nice touch against the lightness of the yellow flowers.

When we think centerpieces, naturally flowers are the first thing that come to mind, but there are other great possibilities. For yellow decorations, whole fresh lemons make a nice pop of pure yellow color. Stack them high in a clear glass cylinder and surround them with a wreath of classic white and yellow daisies for a country wedding. It would be so cute with other sweet and classic details, like yellow gingham check table linens, a buttercream cake, and a white cotton lace wedding dress worn with pearl earrings. If your wedding is modern you can create a very unique effect by topping square tables with clear Plexiglass. Between the table and the Plexiglass, sandwich a layer of lemon slices. Then top with minimalist displays that will allow your centerpiece within the table to really be seen and appreciated.

Gerbera daisies are a favorite informal flower for summer weddings. A very fresh and cute way to display them is to plant them in a bed of wheatgrass. Very fresh and summer meadow-like; simply adorable for an outdoor wedding. The happy faces of gerbera daisies can also be used for very easy to arrange diy centerpieces. A great look for long tables is to line up an assortment of short clear vases and pop a yellow daisy in each one. Use a variety of shades of yellow to increase the visual interest. If you want to heighten the color, choose vases in a contrasting color like robin’s egg blue or lime green. A neat variation on this is to place a single gerbera daisy in a glass test tube. Place a series of the tubes in a stand to create a very modern and memorable centerpiece design.

If you are having a formal summer wedding, design your centerpieces around a breathtaking collection of exotic yellow orchids. Stunning phalaenopsis roses are magnificent in combination with other yellow flowers such as mimosa and French tulips. Set them in a tall vase which will allow them to drape over the edge in a dramatic fountain. These would make spectacular centerpieces for a summer evening wedding, complete with the bride in a couture gown and beautiful pearl drop earrings, an orchestra, and Champagne cocktails.

Brides on a budget can definitely take advantage of the bold impact a room full of sunny yellow flowers will have. Masses of carnations can look stylish when they are tightly packed into modern arrangements. You can’t beat the bang for your buck, and when used as the main event rather than a filler, the ruffly carnation turns out to be truly beautiful. Perfect for a cheery summer wedding reception.
