Can the speaker wires in my Alarm Clock radio power lights instead?

Will it work if I detach the speaker wires from my alarm clock radio and solder them to the power source for a small driver for ElectroLuminescent lights? Or do I need to find a different power source? Or do I need to convert the voltage?

Depends on the wattage and voltage of your lights and your alarm clock.

The lights should be easy. Should say on the bulb or the box or somewhere.

The clock is gonna be harder. Use a multimeter to find voltage. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WORKING WITH LIVE ELECTRICITY!!!!!!!!!
I REALLY HOPE YOU ARE NOT A DUMBASS. A multimeter may be purchased cheaply at walmart and will be suitable.

You will have to connect the meter in series with the operating speaker to find the amp draw. Amps x Volts = Watts.

If the voltage source is the same as the lights requirements, and there are more amps available then required then go for it.

If the lights draw more amps then the speakers then nix the idea and go with bigger wires, and a bigger power source. If you try to hook it up the wires will over heat possibly causing a fire.

If your doing this with 120V houshold current you should really have somone help that knows what they are doing because there a alot of things that could go wrong and alot of ways you can kill youself. Do not touch any uninsulated wires, and dont touch any capacitors.
