Ride Hunter

Ride Hunter

Do you ride your horse western or English, and why? If you display the events you do?

I ride because I run primarily Western barrels. I love the speed of barrel racing and spinning around the poles or barrels is a lot of fun. I ride English to vary times and I like to ride in English on the road, because the chair is more comfortable. I have shown in some hunter hack classes and have won almost all my classes.

I ride, so much so but I'd rather ride bareback whenever possible. I also use all three in my therapeutic riding classes depending on what the rider's abilities and needs. I to ride bareback promotes a stronger bond between rider and horse. It also eliminates the "crutches" which gives the saddle. English improves posture and form. It also helps strengthen the trunk (stomach and back muscles) to help with coordination. West is what I grew up with and I am more comfortable with. I think it's all a matter of preference.
