What is the most time on ice a player has had in a single game?
(Of course discounting goalies)
What is the record for a defenseman?
And for a forward?
Ice time has only been kept officially for the past few years, so there’s no way of knowing.
It is Very Rare for a defenseman to get much beyond 30 minutes, though. I recall Al MacInnis having such nights in St. Louis, what with power play and regular shifts. Bourque played a ton of minutes too.
Forwards usually get less ice time, in part because there are 12 to choose from. Wayne Gretzky probably got close to 30 on some nights, as he sometimes played every other shift plus some special teams as the game went along.
Overtime games are obviously different.
