Is it a bad idea to have a large mouse pad underneath my laptop?
I bought a large laptop at frys last week but it was huge and my girlfriend had just bought me a standard sized one. I didn’t want to return it so I figured that I just put it underneath my laptop so that the underside doesn’t get dirty or scratched. My cousin said this wasn’t a good idea because it would make the laptop overheat faster. It does feel a little warmer after an hour but is that true? The large mouse pad is made of that typical mouse pad material if it helps.
Your cousin is right – blocking the ventilation holes on the laptop will cause it to overheat quicker – it won’t destroy it quickly, rather it will degrade the life of the components. People have there laptops on their laps, you might say, and yes, you can have it on your lap, because you won’t have it there for long enough for it to be a problem, and your legs don’t cover the same area as the mouse pad.
