Dr. Stat Fantasy Thermometer: June 10, 2008
The doctor is in! This is designed to be more than a summary of the best players of fancy cooler and last week of the MLB. The thermometer Fantasy is here to provide a deeper analysis and make aware of current trends to look beyond rankings and weekly performances. I want this to be as helpful as possible to readers fantasy, so your comments and suggestions are encouraged, as it will help me determine how to compile the weekly Fantasy thermometer. This week includes a new format, as I have compiled a hot line of departure, two hot starting pitchers and a hot relief pitcher. I have included a short list of cold, low performance players. Thanks for reading, all comments are appreciated.
WHO'S HOT FOR DR. THE STAT THERMOMETER
Catcher: Dioner Navarro, Tampa Bay Rays
In the past month, which hit .360 (89 at-bats). Last week batted .333 with two homers and six RBIs. It has been fairly consistent throughout the season. Despite having fewer at-bats, Navarro is ninth among recipients in RBIs, is batting .349 and has played almost every day since the last week of April.
First Base: Ryan Howard, Philadelphia Philles
After a terrible April (.168, 5 HR, 12 RBI), Howard batted .238 in May with 10 homers and 30 RBIs. Those are the numbers, along with a number absurd strikeout, we expect from the former MVP. It has always been a cold start, and then heat over the last four months of the season. All usually indicates that the event again this summer.
Second Base: Ian Kinsler, Texas Rangers
Reproduction for the Rangers and not being named Josh Hamilton did not respect you a lot. However, Ian Kinsler is one of the brightest young players in the game. For all players who classified as second baseman Kinsler is first in runs scored, second in steals and third in RBIs. He had a streak of 19 games back and had 2 or most hits in six of their last nine games.
Third base: Joe Crede, Chicago White Sox
Last week numbers (.524, 5 HR, 12 HR, 9 R) are impressive, but were driven back to back games with two homers. Looking deeper, who hit .341 over the last month and on-base percentage is the highest it's been since April 16. The White Sox are hot, and Crede is one of the main reasons why.
Shortstop: Hanley Ramirez, Florida Marlins
After making my cold last week, HanRam redeemed himself with a .357, 5 HR, 8 RBI, 9 R, 2 weeks SB. After going 16 games without an RBI single, which has again become a force in the top five offensive statistical categories and is 7 to 1 game winning streak.
Outfield: JD Drew, Boston Red Sox
Their poor season for the first time in Boston is a thing of the past, as Drew is on track to a season HR/100 25 RBIs. He batted .296 in May and June started with a bang. Last week was 11-of-20 (0550). It is always a lift to both the Red Sox and fantasy owners. You are skeptical about putting their faith in him, but there is no reason to believe that they will continue to occur, provided of course you stay healthy.
Outfield: Johnny Damon, New York Yankees
Johnny hit 548 weeks ago, driven by a 6-of-6 day on Saturday. After hitting .276 in April, hit .306 in May. His on-base percentage and slugging percentage have soared, and being at the base translates into more steals and runs. He turns 35 later this year, but it is shown that when healthy, is still a player fantasy value.
Outfield: Milton Bradley, Texas Rangers
It is difficult to put into words the type season that is taking Bradley. Is on its way to destroy their best numbers in a single season. Since the beginning of 2007, only Chipper Jones and Albert Pujols have a higher base percentage with 400 at-bats. He was the number one player last week, posting a line of .550, 5 HR, 11 RBI, and SB 9 R 4. For the season, Bradley .340 average, 14 homers, 43 RBIs and 44 runs are amazing for a career .278 hitter.
Utility: Ryan Ludwick, OF, St. Louis Cardinals
Ludwick falls under the "How long can this man keep this up?" category. Despite his boot Hot Ludwick remained a free agent in many leagues to managers finally decided to put some faith in him. He hit .333 and drove in 16 runs in May. It is a slower start in June, so if a manager loses faith and drops it, I take it.
Starter: Scott Kazmir, Tampa Bay Rays
Since coming off the disabled list May 4, Kazmir has gone 6-1 with a 1.40 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 44 Ks. It was the best starting pitcher in fantasy in the last month, as their electrical equipment dominating opposing hitters. If you selected or marketed by him later when he began the season injured, you are reaping the rewards now.
The opener: Edinson Volquez, Cincinnati Reds
While Josh Hamilton is having an incredible season, one can see why the Reds were willing to trade. Not only Jay Bruce waiting in line, but saw excellent potential in a young Edinson Volquez. He is 9-2 with an ERA of 1.56. His WHIP, K / BB would be much less if he walked fewer batters, as he was walking almost as many batters (43) as he gave up hits (52). His 96 K are all pitchers and he has been able to limit the damage caused by the trouble he gets en. The most remarkable fact of all? He has allowed just 14 earned runs in 14 starts.
Relief Pitcher: Francisco Rodriguez, Los Angeles Angels
He has 26 saves, leading baseball, including 23 in a row. It's just one blown save all season and averaged almost a strikeout per inning. In recent 12 games, allowed one run and four hits. In short, it is as a dominant closer as they come.
WHO'S Warming RD. STAT THERMOMETER
Jose Guillen: DE, Kansas City Royals
Guillen hit .367 Last week, with four homers and 10 RBIs, as he lit up Yankee pitchers. After hitting .192 in April, batted .308 in May. Many people forget that he hit .290 with 23 homers and 99 RBIs last season. If you have not been reflected in their league, however, he soon.
Justin Masterson: SP, Sox Boston Red
It spent at least 6.0 innings and has given up just one run in three of his four starts, walking 12 and striking out 18. Despite being supported by the Red Sox offense, which has won two of those games 2-1. This shows he can pitch under pressure and in close games.
The WHO cold on the DR. THE STAT THERMOMETER
Victor Martinez, C, Cleveland Indians last month: .202, 0 HR, 7 RBI
David Wright, New York Mets 3B Last week: 4 / 22 (191), 0 HR, 3 RBI
Alex Gordon: 1B/3B, Kansas City Royals last month: .235, 0 HR, 8 RBI
Brandon Phillips, Cincinnati Reds 2B Last Week: 5 / 30 (167), 1 HR, 3 RBI
Brad Penny SP Los Angeles Dodgers Last month: 35 IP, 0-5, 6.17 ERA, 1.69 WHIP
