Hi , i’m a little bit new to horses and i’m buying a dun colt. Well i’ve buy a Nylon Halter, a rein, a grooming brush, and a hoof pick. Do I need other things ?!
first throw out the nylon halter and get a rope halter its better for him get some books on horses
he will need a rug you,ll need a main comb, tail brush, foam spunge for washing him plus more
talk to your local horse feed store and join a riding club the people there will more than likely be happy to help good luck and welcome to horse ownership
Gentle Horse Training – How To Train Horses
A healthy balance of authority and kindness as well as trust and confidence are the key factors in training horses, because the fact is these animals are considered to be gentle species. When teaching this gentle animal to follow your commands, it is very important not to break its spirit or abuse it in any way. Here are some tips on how to train horses.

The best thing to do for one year old or younger horses is to work with a halter and lead line. It will be ideal to train your horse in ten to fifteen minute sessions daily, at the same time if possible. And keep in mind that animals train best if they are taught things the same time everyday. Reward it with pats and treats like grains, carrots or apples immediately when it walks or trots with you, lifts its feet or turns according to your directions.
For two year old horses, a blanket, saddle and girth can now be introduced. Again, treats and rewards are very important as progress is made. If possible, drive the horse from behind, asking it to walk, trot, stop, or slow down.
Get on the saddle fully when the horse is able to adjust with your weight. Gently slip both thighs around the saddle and put your feet in the stirrups. Ask another person to lead the horse on a lead line connected to a halter while you are sitting on the animal’s back. Say the verbal commands to walk, turn and stop. Then twist your legs slightly in the appropriate direction and work the reins to make horse turn. Make sure to work in short straight line patterns, curves or wide circles.
Finally on how to train horses, have it trot in brief spurts after the horse starts obeying your commands to walk and turn. You may stay on a level surface or go uphill. However, it is not a good idea to go downhill until the gait is mastered. Once the trot is mastered, go to a lope. Again do not go uphill until the lope is mastered.
