Gear Mobile
Does the military actually use MILES gear for training?
I read in the book Shooter of a simulated urban warfare shootout, in which Gunny Jack Coughlin showed his superior officers the power of a mobile sniper assault team. Do they really use this gear or did they? Is it still common?
I think its neat stuff
a lot of it depends on your unit. i used the miles stuff a little in my career, tho i think the other guy was right when he said something about there being something newer.
If your command is smart, youll do more training with the 9mm sim rounds. they arern’t very accurate over distance, but that isnt so much what the training is about. its fire under real life pressure. also, if you are taking long shots, then chances are there is a lot less stress involved and troops can calm down and take an accurate controlled shot.
in urban warfare, you may come around a corner and find that you need to start shooting. The sim rounds give guys the opportunity to be surprised and open fire and then actually see where they hit. you get to shoot real rounds at live targets. guys get to have some real experience in some real live situations without the side effect of dying.
another thing is weapons jam. you come out of an aircraft opening fire and next thing your M4 is jammed. or maybe you run your mag dry and need to shoot now. you transition to your sidearm and there you go. with miles, there was no running out of ammo or malfunctions.
over all sim rounds are the ultimate training aid.
